My Opinion on Being Yourself

I'm made fun of a lot in school, because I'm not like other guys. I'm not really interested in sports, and I'm more into music, art, and learning. No, I'm not gay, but in short, I'm a brainyac or "nerd." All of my friends are supporting and kind to me. Everyone else is a d-bag and is terrible to me. However, I don't let it get to me. I let it slide off, because I'm proud of who I am, and you should be proud of yourself.

Let's say someone walks up to you and calls you ugly, lesbo, queer, or anything that hurts you. What could you do? There are three main options. One, hit them or yell at them. Two, get an adult. (I've tried that, and it usually makes the problem worse.) Or three, remain calm, turn around, and say, "Even if I am, at least I'm a better person than you, because I don't make fun of other people for it." You don't have to say anything to the attacker, but at least walk away.

Those are the best ways to handle verbal assault. I on the other hand call them a douche, bitch, or something like that, and that usually shuts them up.  However if there is physical or sexual assault, that is against the law, and if the school doesn't handle it, then you can take the matter to the courts. You also could defend yourself physically, but only if they come after you first.

There are other reason's a person won't be them self. (This example applies to boys and girls. Always there is no such thing a boy or girl anything.) Like, say a girl likes a type of music the others don't. Sometimes she will deny liking it or say she likes something else, because she is afraid she will be made fun of for liking something different. Well, if your "friends" don't accept you for what you like, then it's time to find some new friends.

There will always be some reason to not be yourself. No matter what, you should always be yourself. I understand there are some exceptions, like if a person or peoples lives are at stake, but that rarely happens. What have we learned today? Always be true to yourself. I started to be myself more, and now, I have a lot of friends who are like me. What's your opinion on the matter of being yourself? Leave a comment, and I may get back to you. Keep reading.

  1. I liked this piece, but sometimes when I'm myself makes things worse so I fake it. If I was myself I wouldn't fit into the group I'm in now. Sometimes you just have to fake it.

    1. Your screwed if you think that, because there will be people there after you embrace yourself.
